Structural adhesives
Structural glue have excellent load-bearing capacity, shear loads and resistance to chemicals. The adhesive is a thermo hardening adhesive and has good results when it comes to strains under extreme conditions. Structural adhesives have a shear strength starting at 7Mpa and are therefore very interesting to use. These adhesives can be used to form strong and durable bonds with for example metals, glass hard plastics and rubbers. Another example of such adhesives is the ability to reduce the cost of ownership through low direct and indirect costs. The versatility and applicability within the assembly and manufacturing industries are also reasons why many companies use these adhesives.
Origin
Epoxy, which originated in the 1940s, is known as one of the oldest synthetic chemicals used to develop adhesives. It is also one of the most versatile and usable adhesives with a large number of reaction substances. These adhesives offer the ability to work at both high and low temperatures. In addition, they can be used flexibly or rigidly at both heavy or brittle loads, so there are many possibilities for Epoxy. These adhesives are used for structural bonding, where high loads must be possible. They are often used in sectors as aviation, defense and the industrial transport sector. Especially in these industries are requirements regarding temperature and/or exposure to chemicals.
In addition to Epoxy, Methacrylate – and Polyurethaneglues are also adhesives used as structural adhesives. Each product has its own advantages and disadvantages. Acrylates are strong and have a flexibility that is especially applicable in dynamic applications.
Types of epoxy adhesives
In addition to Technicoll’s products, we also supply structural adhesives under our own name; Bondtack. This makes it possible to supply a wide and easily applicable range of adhesives for the industry. They are high quality products that meet all requirements this runs from Cyanoacrylate, Epoxy, MS, MMA and Polyurethane adhesives.
Choosing an adhesive
How to choose a suitable adhesive for the job is often a difficult but crucial question for customers. Often there is no direct answer, the application is certainly important in this question. Above all, look at where you are gluing and what the end application of the part is.
It is very important to look at the smallest possible selection of products to make the right choice. 80% of applications can be done with our core selection, see our product sheets for further information by category. On these pages you will find important information about the materials and adhesion. Using this information, you can already narrow down your framework. After this you can start looking at more specific features, such as color, processing time, temperature range, viscosity and flexibility.
